What should you expect at OCMC?

We are a growing Christian community in the most diverse neighborhood in Philadelphia. We are diverse ethnically, socio-economically and generationally.  We seek to reflect this diversity in our worship, fellowship and ministries.

What do I wear?

At OCMC, we wear a variety of styles.  Most of us dress casually or “business casual.”

Can I come if I am not Mennonite?

Yes! Come experience a worship service and fellowship with us.  The people who attend OCMC come from a variety of backgrounds  Talk with us, ask questions and let us get to know you.

How long is the worship service?

Our service begins at 11am and lasts about 90 minutes.

What happens in the worship service?

We include praise and worship music, prayers, a greeting time, a children’s story and sermon.  Occasionally, we may break into small groups to listen and pray for each other. You are welcome to sit and observe or to participate at the level you feel comfortable. We also invite people to share stories about how God is working in their lives or to share prayer requests. There is a room for nursing mothers room outside the sanctuary that is available for any parent and child who needs it during the service.  Our ushers can direct you to this room.

What language is used in the worship service?

Our primary language is English and our pastors speak only English.  However, people who attend speak a variety of languages including Spanish, Créole, Tagalog, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, German and French.  We occasionally incorporate these languages into our singing and Bible reading.

Is the church handicap accessible?

Yes.  There are no stairs to navigate to get into the first floor of our building where the lobby sanctuary and bathrooms are located.  There is an elevator to the second floor where we have youth and jr youth classes.  Bathrooms are also located on the second floor.

Where do I park?

We have a large, secure parking lot located off Howell Street that faces the entrance to the church.  Handicap parking spaces are available.

What is available for my child?

The children’s story is in the middle of the service. This may be a video or a story time when children are invited forward. We also offer a bi-weekly Friday program for children in the church and in the community.

What is available for my preteen and teen?

We have a jr. high outreach program that is geared to preteens inside and outside the church. Friday Night Live happens bi-weekly. We also have a high school youth ministry. Check the calendar on the front page for dates.

What do you have for adults?

Because of the pandemic, we are reevaluating our adult ministry programs. In the past , we have offered, Sunday School. classes, weekly growth groups, prayer opportunities and women’s bible study. We also have a nonprofit that offers various programs to the community. Please see our ministry page and calendar for more information.

Is there anything else I need to know?

You are welcome to arrive before 11am to fellowship in the lobby. Pre-service group prayer in the sanctuary starts at 10:45am. Because of the pandemic, we have spread the chairs out in the sanctuary and encourage everyone to wear a mask. People also tend to hang around after our worship service ends to socialize, get to know each other better, pray for each other and build relationships.  We are waiting for you to join us!
